Retail Digitalization: The Practical Guide

Step-by-step plan for retailers moving from Excel spreadsheets to a networked POS — no buzzwords, just clear decisions.

Retail digitalization isn't a project — it's a process. You won't go from Excel to a networked POS in a day. This guide shows the order that makes sense.

Step 1: POS and payment

It all starts at the POS. A TSE-compliant POS with integrated card terminal is the foundation. Check: can you scan products by barcode? Are sales broken down by day, employee and category? If not, you lack the base.

Step 2: Inventory management

Once the POS records sales cleanly, inventory comes next. The system should show you: which items sell? Which have sat 90 days? When to reorder? Good inventory learns your velocity and suggests orders itself.

Step 3: Multi-location and cloud

Multiple locations? You need cloud. A central dashboard shows sales, stock and staff across all stores. Without it, you visit each location individually — time wasted.

Step 4: Webshop and digital price tags

Once data is clean, expand: digital price tags updated centrally. A webshop synced with stock. A loyalty card actually used. Now you're digital.
